Could The Airbus A330neo Become The World's Most Popular Airliner?
When it comes to smaller widebodies, Airbus’ main offering is the A330neo, a re-engined, update of the popular A330.
But, well, if this aircraft family’s closest rival is the Boeing 787 family, then it would appear that Airbus’ A330neo is falling behind and not quite living up to the legacy set by its predecessor.
But is there any chance that this could change in the future? Are airlines in certain pockets of the world poised to order this aircraft type?

Why Don't European Carriers Fly To Hawaii?

Popular Trijet: A Deep Dive Into Why Boeing Built The 727

American planemaker Boeing catalyzed the jet age when it launched the four-engine 707 in the late-1950s. However, going forward, it also had to consider what aircraft it might produce for shorter flights to and from smaller airports. Airlines had different demands, with some wanting proven four-engine jets while others preferred the idea of twin-engine aircraft. However, Boeing came up with an ...

With the B787 production rate of 5 aircraft per month, it doesn't take a genius to figure out why the A330 NEO is a good alternative. It actually is available.

Yes, I think that the Airbus A330neo still have a shot at being a popular widebody aircraft in the next decade because I loved its 2-4-2 configuration in Economy Class, which is more enjoyable for pairs than the 3-3-3 layout on the Airbus A350-900 XWB and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which is more enjoyable only for a group of three or more, and also its common type rating with other Airbus aircrafts, which allows pilots to switch between aircrafts with only a few days of training.

I like the A330neo. airbus can easily deliver these jets on time as they have a less amount of back log to deal with than boeing. they need to get their acts together and sort out all the issues they have before they deliver more aircraft. there are some airbus incidents but not as many as boeing has. airbus could easily over take deliveries in time, as airlines are looking to upgrade their fleets soon.lets see what happens? also the A330 is a fabulous aircraft even if it doesnt get as many orders as the 787 does.

  • @magical_catgirl

Qantas only got the A330ceo because they were considering ordering the A380 (then the A3XX) and were an all Boeing airline with 767s and 747s for their long haul flights. Airbus offered A330s at large discounts (with some units for free) in order to lock in an order for the A380 while giving the airline some experience with Airbus aircraft before the 380 arrived.

With all the hassle with 787 deliveries I wouldn't be surprised if some airlines start looking at the 330. They can only wait for so long for new aircraft.

at least the a330neo won't crash or fall apart mid air. It still is embarassing to see the a330-800neo being the worst selling aircraft though.

I think the A330-800 is Airbus' worst selling aircraft of all time. Even the A330-200F, A319neo and A318 sold more units than the A330-800.

As a Filipino, Philippine Airlines did not yet talk about the A330neo, as a matter fact, Filipino Aviation Enthusiast Blogger Mond Ortiz said on Facebook Page: PAL was planning to purchase of Boeing 787 dreamliner including Boeing 787-10. In fact, some Filipino passengers and planespotters was a good choice of Boeing 787-10 dreamliner for the Middle flights to Middle East, Pacific to Honolulu and Australia after the successfully purchasing ordered of Boeing aircraft such as Boeing 747-200 way back in 1970's then Boeing 747-400 since 1990's and Boeing 777-300 ER since 2009. And yes it is a legitimate planning of former PAL President Ramon S. Ang was planning to purchase of Boeing 787 in the future for the additional fleet. As a matter of fact Filipino Enthusiast was surveyed through comments on what aircraft to choose purchasing for the medium flights, and surveyed: 100% Boeing 787 including 787-10 in the future compared to A330neo because they have A330neo for Cebu Pacific

Grew up in the back of 727s - flying to Florida and back. Last flight on one was Navy Separation in '89 - the flight back from MGU, saw the green flash as we descended into Norfolk. We smoked in the back of these birds. A lot. 727 is such an iconic looking bird that George Lucas took design elements from it to create Luke's Land Speeder. It is the fastest looking subsonic airliner - even standing still.

If you're a smaller country with no reason to have greater security concerns and your leader is not taking part in all that many global agenda and has less trips abroad, and you're a democracy based on free market and efficiency, a rented aircraft might be the most reasonable option. It can save tax payers loads of money to own and keep an aircraft. Now, regarding countries that are within the central decision makers, you ought to have a dedicated vip transport. I find the situation of SIngapore, for ex. very modern. To me is like a country where the politicians take the bus to work. It shows things are working and representatives are close to the people. But there are some geopolitical protagonists where this is just unfeasable. And here are, of course, those small countries that have a huge luxury vip aircraft just to attend to the will of narcissist leaders.

The new 321 will prove NOT adequate for XLR sectors out of hot and high airports, short or contaminated runways.. The solutions for the RCT safety will penalize range and/or payload. For what it promises, it would have required a larger wing, bigger flaps, and an 8-wheeled MLG, something more similar to the 757. Furthermore the problems with the P&W geared engines makes ETOPS clearances doubtful. A postponement of the type certification till 2025 or later looks realistic.

Ngl, it’s pretty impressive how Airbus pivoted from the A380 (commercial) failure based on H&S to the A321XLR based on P2P. Boeing primarily made the 747-8 to force Airbus to go all in on the A380 while they focus on the 787 for better P2P service.

It's not so much the lack of business travellers as that it is also the case for many long-haul vacation destinations you can reach non-stop from Europe. Phuket/Thailand, the Maldives, Mauritius or the Carribean islands are all within the 10-12 hour flight time bracket. So Hawaii would also compete on many more items than just flight hours with those established destinations. One could be the costs of accomodation, rental cars, dining etc. in Hawaii - compared for example to Thailand. The Maldives are not exactly cheap but score high on being exclusive and remote. And so on.
